Plunger? Mechanical? Scissor?

by richard

No, we aren’t branching out into DIY equipment – these are the three main types of key used in keyboards at the moment and we’d like to know which one you prefer (along with some other questions). So let’s see if we can get some key responses about the keys on your keyboard and then we can see if we’re keyed in to what you guys want. Pass this on to all of your gamer friends too – the more people who fill this in, the better a picture we’ll have.

I'm kinda new to gaming so I really can't answer your survey questions but I have some of my own questions, if you don't mind answering them. I was wondering if the Cyborg V.7 Gaming Keyboard would be like the R.A.T.7 and have a wireless version. Which would be awesome 'cause I hate having wires around the living room. Also, I'd like to know when the R.A.T.9 will be sold in Hong Kong. I've seen the R.A.T.5 and the store owner said they could order a Cyborg Keyboard (I think it's V.7) and since I kinda wanna get them at the same time. It'll be great if you could enlighten me. Thanks.

Hi,

No plans for a wireless keyboard at the moment, I'm afraid.

The R.A.T.9 should start shipping in a month - we'll announce it here on the Blog.

I don't like wireless keyboards or mice any more tbh. They are just a pain when you run out of power in game and some (like my old one) have to be reset once the batteries are changed meaning messing around with pushing buttons which in the past I have had countless problems with whilst in game Frown (not cyborg equipment, just wireless mouse and keyboard in general).

Im using mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Black switches, which is mechanical. Its best of what you can get for either writing or gaming. Black switches are more for gaming, then writing, cause they are bit stiff.

Though, theres quite a lot of Cherry MX switches to suit all needs. I think that mechanical keyboard with less stiff switches than Cherry MX Black and maybe less noisy (it can be done), could be quite sucessful, only downside is price, as these keyboards are definetly not cheap.

If you want any advice for creating gaming HW, just write on my mail, Im playing games (FPS mainly) for last 14 yrs, so I have some knowledge about this. Smile

Bit off-topic. How you solved Twin-Eye Z-tracking issue? If you did.. I didnt have opportunity to test R.A.T. 7 yet, so I dont know..

Best regards, Corwin Black

i prefer mechanical keys, but can use any kind, also any word on when you might make an ergo keyboard, really really prefer those, and one that was backlit would be awesome!

One thing I've had on my want-list for about fifteen years, since Quake really, is a keyboard where the WASD-keys (ASDX in my case, I blame Ultima Underworld and System Shock Smile have an analog response as well, with piezo-thingamajigs or something, just a way of varying how fast I actually move in the game.
Would've been a perfect complement to the perfect movement physics Quake has.
I'm amazed that basically no games ever get even close to that feeling of movement, mostly they just feel stiff and jerky. Moving around in Quake was like dancing a deadly bullet-ballet.

End of history lesson from a 36 year 'old'.

I put up with the ctrl key ghosting ( otherwise fine ) in my microsoft sidewinder x6 because of the re-movable/switchable num pad. This allows for more mouse desk space with a "centered" keyboard. Most games I can customize that stray crouch key to on/off behavior. But even if it were more problematic the extra space provided by left numpad positioning is more liberating in the end.

I use to be able to get the old IBM keyboards at the local thrift stores, seems as if those days are over.. so yeah, clackty gamer keys are still pron.

The matt black surfaces used in the cyborg line are appreciated by those who hate fingerprints. The Quality present in the R.A.T. 9's materials and overall design would probably be a huge event if a R.A.T. keyboard was announced! the v5 and v7 feel cheesy and cheap compared to the quality level of the R.A.T., Razer and Steel series offerings.

Most of use willing to spend $149 dollars for quality in a mouse would do the same for rubberized cherry mx keys with anti-ghosting and a leather rest pad.

Some ditto-heads who cannot manage to turn off their LED lit keys complain about the lights. But Aging gamers like myself with bad muscle memory and poor eyesight will never consider buying a keyboard without LED lit keys. Furthermore I find any serious hardware enthusiast will never buy an led color that does not match their rig's theme. ( why I do not buy the fine offering by Razer... [ actually they do have an orangeish led lit keyboard special edition C.O.D. ])
Having invested in 3d vision and surround ( 3 27inch acers ) I find that the LED brightness is not bright enough to see when the shutter glasses are active ( it gets reaaly dark ). In such cases my keyboard navigation is severly crippled. The brightness of LED's that could be seen with 3d shutter glasses would have to be extremly bright! ( to bright without the glasses on. )
If you could make such an led lit keyboard that became that bright automatically with the 3d transmitter signal i imagine such a feature would be unique and popular.

The Corsair vengence keyboards look like they are using very sexy/expensive materials. ( you don't see many brushed aluminum USB keyboards with rubberized keys with 20 key rollover ) problem is there is no red LED models with left handed numpad so I'll stick to my plastic, ctrl ghosting, finger print magnet sidewinder.

My wallet has open and waiting for along time. Sometimes I wonder If it's just because such queys like this are not made.

Also it would be nice if the best mouse mats for the RAT 9 were not made by another manufacturer. The R.A.T like a white/light/bright. been happy since i switched to as much.

Good feedback - cheers.  By the way, I've got one of those 27" Acers at home too and for the odd time that my typing muscle memory lets me down, I find that raising my head and peering under the 3D glasses works just dandy for me!
